âGreetings! Hope you’re having a great Sunday. Have been very busy this week, and this week’s list is slightly curtailed (in quantity, I hope not in quality). Here goes.
- Emma Watson Interviews Persepolis Author Marjane Satrapi - if you read only one thing this week, read this. Absolute gem of an interview. This is what feminism should be.
- How Did a Shark in a Sydney Aquarium End Up With a Human Arm? - Enough said, I guess. The shark wasn’t even guilty.
- Mom who moderates her daughter’s rowdy Twitch chat - New age disruption, new age parenting norms. Quite an interesting read.
- What’s it Mean to ‘Like’ an Author? - Something I’ve pondered upon a lot. When do you like an author? Can you like somebody as an artist even if you don’t like their work much? Does the kind of person they are in real life figure into your analysis?
- What’s Behind Japan’s Obsession With Cuteness?â - Another interesting cultural profile, why is kawaii one of the most popular words among Japanese youth? Just like people search for a formula for something to become viral, the Japanese search for a formula for cuteness.
- A mashup of Disney movies of the last 30 years (video) - overload of everything positive. Brought such a wide smile on my face as I was watching this :))
- Lunch with the FT: Rob Rhinehart - Rob Rhinehart is the man behind Soylent, a positively disrupting meal-replacement beverage that sounds uncannily like its out of a sci-fi novel. Which it actually is, in name at least (the name Soylent comes from a book Make Room! Make Room!)
- The Right to Have Remained Silentâ - When your tweets are held against you as evidence in court, are you right to protest? Are you right to retaliate by bringing up your prosecutor’s murky Facebook posts? Interesting read. Something that’s going to become more and more relevant.
Online platforms did not sign up for journalism’s responsibilities any more than the ink producers did, but they’ve always walked a murky line. If you post your content on Google’s servers and YouTube makes money on the ads they sell against it, Google fulfills the function of a publisher or a broadcaster but without any of the voluntary responsibilities. - Ball lightning (video) - superb footage of ball lightning captured against a picturesque sky. It’s very short, so it cannot disappoint.
Have a great Sunday!
